Leganto is a reading list management system for Northeastern University, allowing instructors to develop a reading list within a Canvas course site and push it through to the library for processing. Leganto provides the flexibility to break readings into weeks and sections and to add different types of resources to course lists, including self-uploaded materials and web content. Leganto can also be used as a resource list for both library and non-library resources. Students benefit from the accessibility and affordability of having their course readings located within their Canvas course page. Other benefits include:
Improving the Teaching and Learning Experience
Instructors can use Leganto’s analytics and commentary/discussion features to monitor material usage and gain insights into student activity and learning habits. This information can be used to determine the most helpful resource collections for their course.
Leganto facilitates transparency in the processing workflow, reduces faculty’s need to rebuild course lists each semester and provides more ownership of their reserves. Faculty can also collaborate with colleagues on lists for similar courses.
By utilizing library-purchased and open access materials available online, students no longer have to purchase expensive course packs and other required materials. This both saves students money and ensures equal access to course materials.
Leganto’s integration with Canvas means students and faculty can access materials without leaving their course homepage. And by collecting course materials in one location, users have fewer barriers to finding (and re-visiting) key resources. This can save time when it comes to citing sources, as well as when creating syllabi for future courses.
